D-Day

I honestly had hope at first. I truly did. I woke up at 6 (didn't even hit the alarm clock). Got ready in a speedy but thorough fashion. My outfit was already picked out (a semi-new green slim tee that said "Monsters Need Love Too" with a cute monster on the front and spikes going up the back as well as black ultra skinny pants, converse, green spiky earrings, and my rings necklace). Mom helped with my hair. Huy was super sweet and got up early to text me off, so I was texting him. I got my contacts in (eventually). I had manage to get some breakfast down. It was 7:15. The bus got there at 7:32.

So we thought.

I was walking around looking to see if I'd need anything else when my dad was like, "Bus is here." Obviously I was like, "WHAT?! It's not even 7:20!!! Maybe it's the younger kids' bus?" His reply? "Well, another bus just turned in too, you better check it out." Basically, I grab my junk and run out the door. Leaving the subdivision, there is indeed a bus and I'm thinking "GREAT! I just missed the bus on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL." Then I turn to go back inside, when suddenly another bus rounds the corner. I look at it confused, begin walking towards it and suddenly it just drives on by! Guess who's bus THAT was?

Basically, it was a bad start. I was depressed. I'd gotten up at 6 am to catch a bus that just drove on by right under my nose. I went back inside to wallow in self pity for another half hour before mom would take me. Then I remembered the playlist I made the day before of songs for my first days (positive or down-right happy songs that would remind me, it'll be alright!). Listened to that, checked my email. Saw Jo-Jo's sweet email <3 felt a little better.

Eventually we drove there, and I was like a deer in head lights. In a daze, I walked to my locker that I'd found during schedule pick-up. I remembered to smile at everyone I went by, and I'm pretty sure I screamed "I'M NEW, HELP ME." After I went to my locker, threw some junk in, I began walking aimlessly around when I suddenly heard "Students go to the wildcat (that's what we are apparently) gym." While I don't know where THAT is, I DO know just follow the giant herd of people. So I did. It was a pep rally. YUP, on the first day of school. .-. It was super dumb and boring. It became worse when I realized I was sitting in the JUNIOR'S section. That means when they finally dismissed us, me and a couple of other seniors who were spread out in the wrong junior sections had to awkwardly leave.

Then we went to ANOTHER orientation like thing. Apparently, we were just stalling because sophomores (I realized we DO NOT have freshman in our school O.o does anyone else find this EXTREMELY weird!?) were getting id's and schedules. Eventually juniors would get to as well. Then seniors. (No one had id's because the machine wasn't working on the day we picked up schedules a week ago.....yea they are that far behind.) I learned some very disturbing things about this school, of which I will discuss in a bit, in that half hour/forty five minutes. FINALLY, seniors were dismissed and I had to wait in a super long line to get my id. ....only to learn they didn't HAVE my id, so I had to go talk to a lady in a white hoodie. .....only to find that she had her OWN line. It sucked.

On the bright side, as I moved up the line, some girl came to talk to the guy behind me, turned out he'd transferred from the other school here in Springdale, said hello to me then vanished. But that got the guy behind me talking to me, so that was cool. My very first real convo. :P

By the time all the lines were over, it was time for third. BC Calculus. Here I was to meet my teacher who would be teaching me for two classes in a row. To my surprise, she was super nice! A short, semi-plump older middle-aged woman (40's-50's) she was super energetic but in that dorky kind of way that you could kind of stand it and found it comforting. Right off the bat, she embarrassed me by telling the whole class I hadn't taken AB so they should help me, but then I found out that she embarrassed EVERYONE in some form or fashion. I didn't feel too bad.

In that class I met Tain. (I have NO IDEA HOW TO SPELL HER NAME YET, FORGIVE ME.) We found out we had three classes together, including next period. We started talking. She's a foreign exchange student from northern China. She came the second semester of last year, here til December. She seemed really nice. I hated my next class, mostly because the teacher was a stereotypical coach (think Mr. Patrick all over again). We got the LAST lunch. But at least now I had someone to sit with. :) She even came with me to my locker, and I in turn helped her open hers.

Lunch became awkward though. She saw a friend who was sitting with her own friend. We sat down. As Tain talked to her friend, me and the friend of the friend sat awkwardly smiling at each other. We attempted to make small talk but had nothing to say. I was glad when lunch was over.

Bio made up for it though! My teacher there was nice as well. She has a bearded lizard as a pet and our first lab will be picking out fish or other animals that will survive a whole year in our school's pond (yes, we have a little pond) since someone killed last years fish. The girl next to me talked to me, her name's Addie. She seemed nice. Another girl who sat behind me, her name is Uniqua (No idea how to spell her name but it's pronounce like "Unique-Ah"), she said she liked my shirt. Apparently they knew another girl named Sky who graduated last year, but I'm nicer. .-.

Things kinda went down hill from there. My Medical Procedure's class had the wrong class room number printed on it, so half of us were in the wrong room for the first ten minutes of class. The teacher didn't seem too interesting, so I dunno if I'll like her. No one talked to me in that class.

Last was English, which STUNK. It's a junior class and, especially after having Williams last year, the teacher is dull and seems strict (at the very least very conservative). I don't know how I'll survive.

I DID catch the bus home though. It took nearly an HOUR to get home, and to get off you have to scream STOP (a BUNCH of times or EXTREMELY loudly). I don't really care for it much.

But in general, I just don't understand. I literally sit here with my mouth gaping like a fish when I think about my school over all. Last year, they had the worse ACT scores and AP scores in its history. 10 out of 26 BC calculus students passed (when the AP nation average was 75% got a 5). People have died in past years by hood surfing (like on a CAR). Drinking is a problem, but only just this year implemented a no outside drink cups policy (only water bottles, except for lunch). Our dress code policy is LITERALLY "your undergarments can't show." (Which means I saw the shortest shorts and skirts EVER today, and even teachers wore sleeveless blouses.) The principal called tank tops "wife-beaters" on the PA; our teachers called it that too. We have id's, but we don't have to wear them (just have to be on our person if we want to check out or go to the library). We can sit outside to eat; people just sit wherever or go wherever. We are allowed to use cell phones and ipods in the halls, and for a LOT of teachers, in class too when they're not lecturing. They are so lax here, I just don't understand.

I'm also trying to understand the people. I think my class has only 200 students! 60% of females were in flower print blouses, skirts, dresses, or a combination. There is a huge lack of Asians; many who ARE there are "cool asians" (if you've ever seen mean girls, you know what I mean). Our BC calc class has 4 girls, 16 guys. And you know how in glee the cheerleaders where their uniforms everywhere and you wonder, "where the heck do they actually do that?" It's here.

Someone save me?
